Sixpenceee’s whole shtick has always been lazily lifting the work of others and using mental illness as a creepy punchline, and then constantly trying to milk it for profit, like the “Fuck Cancer” tshirts she’s selling that… don’t actually go towards cancer research or charity or anyone but herself. She’s also selling anti-suicide shirts that, again, profit only her.
Apologies or no, sixpenceee is consistently exploitative and self-promoting. She runs her blog like a business and makes thousands of dollars a month off uninspired tshirt designs using lazily compiled unoriginal content. A blogger making a well-meaning mistake is one thing. A blogger monetizing anything and everything again and again with little regard to ethics can handle some sarcastic jokes about their lack of propriety.
and an apology doesn’t always make everything.
sixpenceee portrays mentally ill people as dangerous, creepy, inhuman, and often unnatural. when she speaks about us from a “psychiatric” perspective, she uses terms that frame us as fucking curiosities instead of human beings she actively dehumanizes and demonizes us, and then decided “hey, i could make money off of their illness and pain, too.”
she thinks so little of us that she decided that things like degrees and licenses aren’t necessary–her logic seems to have been, “why try to do it right and ensure the safety of mentally ill people, when i could just exploit their suffering? who cares if i offer advice that leads to disastrous consequences when i could make a quick buck?”
and don’t forget that she was targeting the most vulnerable amongst us: minors, who often haven’t even received diagnoses or treatment yet, and may very well have no support systems to speak of.
oh, and you know what happens when someone pretends to be a therapist? there’s no legal confidentiality agreement, which means she could have gone ahead and posted about people who sought help from her.
