you: Asian people don’t get help for their mental issues because there’s Cultural Stigma and they also hate white doctors

me, an intellectual: Asian people don’t get help for their mental issues because many Asians are poor/don’t have health insurance, there’s language barriers, there’s not enough mental health providers for anyone to begin with, and inexperienced therapists/psychologists are very prone to blaming an Asian patient’s suffering on their culture’s inherent savagery, which is also the reason why many Asians don’t trust white authorities

From middle school through high school I was severely, severely depressed and suicidal but everyone from my school guidance counselors, to my psychiatrist, to my therapist and the doctors at the mental health ward blamed my Japanese mother for not raising me “American” enough. I legit got advice like “watch some American films at home :)” and “distance yourself from your mom”. It was extremely fucked up and I never got the help that I needed because of the extreme lack of cultural competency.
